The Nature Conservancy has been running a little photo contest now for three years and the results were just posted.

Hy Sheanin Scholorship Opportunity with WPPI

Now celebrating its sixth year, the Hy Sheanin Memorial Scholarship is designed to help folks new to the photography industry. Prizes include round-trip airfare to Las Vegas for the 2009 WPPI Convention, registration for the show, a paid PLUS class of their choice, eight nights at the MGM Grand, and a one-year membership to WPPI.

Applicants should submit a cover letter with 50-100 words on why they would like the scholarship, a portfolio of ten 8"x8" or 8"x10" images, and a brief resume of one page or less.

F.U.E.L Collection - Grand Small Works Call for Entries

This gallery sits in the historic Old City District of Philadelphia and was recently the site of MTV's The Real World: Philadelphia. They are currently accepting email submissions for a Grand Small Works Show, each piece under 20"x20". Get your images together and submit by October 30th. It is FREE!

Szpilman Award 2008 - deadline October 15

Here's a contest likely off the radar. The Szpilman Award attempts to promote work that exists only for a moment of time. Prizes include a rather interesting trophy, money raised from donations for the contest, and ten days accommodation in Poland. 

It's free to apply and work must have been produced between October 1 of 2007 and October 15 of 2008. This is a juried competition and is a good opportunity to gain some international exposure. Did I mention it's FREE!

Plates to Pixals - A Pacific Northwest Center for Photography Project

This 2nd Annual Portland, Oregon show is themed Formerly & Hereafter. Open to all domestic and international photographers, you should jump at this chance with no entry fee. The shows juror is Christina Z. Anderson, a great photographer focusing on largely experimental work. Each entrant can submit up to five images. Submission format is email or regular post. Shelter: A National Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Photography

The theme for this Portland, Oregon gallery show is Shelter.

From the website:

Architecture, habitat, sanctuary. Shelter is one of our most basic human needs—at once both physical and psychological. We derive great pride from the shelter we build. We seek shelter from the elements, from the storm, from harm. How can shelter be interpreted visually given its myriad manifestations? Go out. Seek shelter. Make shelter. Tell us a story.

The juror for this show is Randy Gragg. Best of show will get their own future solo show at the gallery. One nice feature of this contest is that they are putting together a full-color show catalogue. Three images will be accepted for a twenty-five dollar entry fee. Images can be sent via mail or submitted online using PayPal. The show will run From November 7-29 just in time for the Christmas season. Deadline is October 3rd.

Glynn Art Gallery - Welcome to My World 2008 Juried Photography Exhibition

Located on St. Simons Island in southeast Goergia, The Glynn Art Gallery is hosting its 17th Annual Welcome to My World Photography Exhibition opening on July 10th. Juried by Jay W. Shoots, deadline for the show is June 6th. Thirty five bucks gets you three entries. Wired Magazine Photo Contest

What have you got to loose? Wired Magazine is running a revolving photo contest, currently macro. Good news is that it's free to submit and with an alleged 35,000 subscribers that's not bad exposure. Bad news is they can't host the images so you'll have to go somewhere else to upload your shots. I use HotLinkFiles.com for hosting. It's free, and I have yet to have any problems. Previous contests include Red, Self-Portrait, Holga, and Night.

Newspace Center for Photography 2008 Juried Competition

Here's a fun one. I just looked at the work of the guy they say is "at the helm" of this exhibiton and his stuff is left field. I love it. Check out the competition website and then bounce over to TJNorris.net. Don't pass up his blog. It's definitely one of the more offbeat lists I've seen in a while. 

Twenty five bucks will get you five image submissions, which isn't a bad deal considering most contests only allow you three shots and cost a little more as well. Exhibit runs July 3rd through August 3rd and one photographer wins a solo show in 2009, again a prize I haven't often seen. CD submission only, and the deadline is May 2nd so get going folks.

Photo Review International Photography Competition

I got a mailer about this one the other day. Thirty dollars gets you three entries up to 16x20 in size. Deadline is May 15th. Prize winners will be exhibited at the photography gallery at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and on the Photo Review website. Specs are more cumbersome than most contests so start early.

New York Photo Awards

You have one more day to enter The New York Photo Awards Competition. Deadline is 6PM on April 21st. The focus for this inaugural contest is to showcase student work and to generate exposure for those pushing the envelope of new photography. Students only. Pilsner Urquell International Photo Awards

If you're looking for a high exposure contest, look no further than this one. Also known as the IPA Competition, they have more categories here than any other contest I've seen. Cost is a bit higher here than most. It will be $35 for a single entry if you are a professional, $25 if you are a non-professional, and $15 for students. Deadline is April 30th, but you can upload online.

Seeking International opportunities?

Here's your chance to get some international exposure. The Kiyosato Museum of Photograph Arts is accepting submissions for its 2008 Young Portfolio print acquisition . It isn't accurately a contest because the museum's goal is to support emerging talent and acquire pieces for their permanent collection. The catch is that you must be less than thirty-five years old. Annually, approximately 6000 prints are submitted and just under three hundred are accepted. Fifteen bucks US gets you five tries. Accepted prints are purchased for between $300.00 to $3000.00 US. The deadline is April 30th so get your stuff sent off ASAP.

Photographic Center Northwest call for entries

The Photographic Center Northwest Gallery is now accepting entries for their 13th Annual Photographic Competition. Entry fee is forty bucks for four images. Deadline is Friday, May 9th and don't delay because you have to send in a CD, no online uploads here.
