The bizarre photo constructs of Erik Johansson

Image copyright Erik Johansson

Eric's work is hard to describe. It is easy to say that he is a photo artist and equally simple to say that he's extremely talented. I tended to think of Escher while looking at his portfolio of work but that falls short of describing how cleverly he tells stories with each image. The work is fun, whimsical, and reminds me of being a child with the world not quite so rigidly defined as it is as an adult.

Wendy Farrow

Sometimes you see a photographer's work and are taken aback by just how cool it really is, this would be the case here. Sphere: Related Content

Cenci Goepel & Jens Warnecke - a different kind of light graffiti

Image copyright Cenci Goepel & Jens Warnecke

These two do a very different kind of light graffiti combining a love for the outdoors with some very creative night photography.

The shot to the left was taken in Briksdalbreen, Norway in 2007.

John Crosley

Image copyright John Crosley

In the roundabout manner of the internet, I came across this New York based photographer's work on a Russian photo blog. A self proclaimed amateur, John's work is truly amazing often incorporating signage to create a vertical canvas that interacts with the human subject.

He has a slideshow of images up at Photo.net.

Pete Eckert's different approach to photography

 Image copyright Pete Eckert

Pete is an amazing photographer. He's also blind.

Biography from the recent Exposure contest he won:
I am a totally blind person. But by memorizing the event of taking photos using sound and touch I have a clear minds eye view of my work. I could do conceptual art by showing the contact sheets and do a write-up about the event of shooting the photos. This would eliminate sighted people from my process. I don't. I want' to interact with sighted people. I am trying to cut a path as a blind artist. By interacting with sighted people I am building bridges. It is important to talk to viewers in gallery shows for me too.My work makes people question their assumptions. By sharpening my other senses and translating what I hear helps my skills. I can see again. I am not trying to depict the sighted world. I am trying to show the world I now see using my other senses. My memories, emotions, as well as sound and touch play a part. Some people don't think I am blind after looking at my work.I am a visual person, I just can't see.

Michael Itkoff's cool Street Portraits

Check out Michael's Street Portrait series. Clever! The Wrecked series is great as well. It brought to mind old Happy Day's episodes with the Fonz smashing up cars.

The Creepy Vision of Malgorzata Jasinska

Serious talent, but be warned that it might give you nightmares. Why are clowns so bloody scary anyway? Oh yes, why is so much Polish art so very dark?

Julia Solis - Krankenhaus:Scenes from Abandoned Hospitals in East Germany

Really interesting explorations into these abandoned spaces. Makes me want to take another trip to Portland to check out the city's underground or the "Shanghai Tunnel" as it is known. Take a look around at the rest of her site as well.

Lost America - Night Photography of the Abandoned West

This stuff is just sick! Great hidden landscape work. I love it. I wish I had more time to do more of this kind of stuff here in Oklahoma.

Camille Seaman - Iceberg Envy

I've wanted to go to Antarctica for years now, I've got this pesky serious seasickness problem to deal with but in the meantime while I build up some courage, I'll just keep going to Camille Seaman's website and drool a little. Check it out.  Sphere: Related Content

Pieter Hugo is the Man

Ok, first off if you haven't seen this guy's hyena and baboon pictures lately then you are living under a rock as his work seems to be on half the covers for the industry rags for the last month. I think his stuff is haunting and terribly beautiful. Take the time from your busy day and go check out his website. If I could afford to to buy a print from any photographer working today, it would be this guy.

Check out Randal Ford's Photography if you haven't

He has a series of works inspired by classic Norman Rockwell themes that are beautiful, tragic, quirky, and everything else that's cool about photography.

Sandra's new blog

I met Sandra during the cold winter this year at the Maine Media Workshops. Sharing war stories about the trials of being on the rock and roll road, we quickly developed a great relationship over suspect food and photo prints. Mrs. Raye is not only a great instructor, but is genuine and open as well. I don't speak this kindly of many people folks. She just started blogging and you should stop by and check it out. If you're fast enough, you might even score a free print.

I must remember to inquire about her having lived in Kingsport, TN as it was part of my old stomping grounds. Many long nights were spent helping bands at the Casbah in Johnson City.
